I received a flyer from Ing Direct and one of the little "did you know" filler items was about carrots. Apparently, they used to be purple. The Dutch genetically modifed them to turn them orange in honour of the House of Orange (from which we get William of Orange, Orangemen etc.).
I didn't know that! Did you know that?
Well done plucky little Holland is all I can say; if not for them we'd all be eating purple carrots.
